What it means

Doubt is the unsettled wrestling of the mind and heart over whether God is real, whether He is good, and whether the Gospel is true. Scripture treats honest doubt not with contempt but with patience: a father cries, 'I believe; help my unbelief!' and Jesus answers his need (Mark 9:24), and the risen Lord invites doubting Thomas to touch His wounds rather than rebuking him away (John 20:27). The Bible also distinguishes the humble seeker, who is met and steadied, from the proud scoffer who refuses all evidence; mercy is commanded toward those who doubt (Jude 22). The deepest answer to doubt is not merely an argument but a Person, the risen Christ whose empty tomb and many witnesses give faith real ground to stand on (1 Corinthians 15:3-8). For the doubting, the call is to bring the questions honestly to God, who gives wisdom generously to those who ask (James 1:5).
