John 1:14
The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us. We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1 — The Word Made Flesh
What it means
John opens his Gospel by deliberately echoing Genesis 1:1, declaring that before creation the Word already was, that He was with God, and that He was God (John 1:1-3). Through this Word everything was made, and in Him was the life that is the light of men, a light the darkness could not overcome. The staggering claim of verse 14 is that this eternal Word became flesh and tabernacled among us, full of grace and truth, so that those who beheld Him saw the very glory of the one and only Son from the Father. John the Baptist bears witness to Him, and to all who receive Him and believe in His name He gives the right to become children of God (John 1:11-13). This chapter establishes Jesus' full deity and true humanity together, the foundation of everything that follows.
How it points to Jesus
Jesus is the eternal Word made flesh, God Himself come to dwell among us and make the unseen Father known, so that whoever receives Him becomes a child of God.
