Aren't all religions basically the same path to God?

What it means

The claim that all religions are different paths up the same mountain sounds humble and generous, but it does not survive close examination: the world's religions make contradictory claims about who God is, what is wrong with humanity, and how it is put right. In John 14:6 Jesus does not present Himself as one good teacher among many but says, 'I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.' This is spoken to anxious disciples the night before the cross, as Jesus comforts them with the promise that He Himself is the road home to the Father. The exclusivity is not arrogance but the necessary consequence of who He is and what He came to do; if sin truly separates us from a holy God (Isaiah 59:2), only One who can bear that sin can bridge the gap. To say Jesus is the only way is therefore not to despise other people but to take seriously what He accomplished on the cross and in His resurrection.
